Food is a necessity of life. Food as a whole describes and contains Nutrients Substances that are extremely essential for the growth, repair, and maintenance of the body tissues and the regulation of the vital processes of the human body. Nutrients provide the energy for our bodies to function. The importance of food sciences is associated with improved quality of food, less wastage, and less cost.

Food science allows us to use the best possible knowledge and ideas to prevent food loss, ensure an abundant food supply, and better packaging and hygiene. The organic food industry is also growing at a fast pace due to the advancement and awareness in the food industry. Food Scientists help to maintain a high and good quality food supply.

Food Science is the study of the physical, biological, and chemical makeup of food. The concept of food processing, risks attached to the food industry, and human health plus food deterioration are considered. The energy in food is measured in units called Calories. Age, weight, height, and level of activity determine the number of calories a person needs each day. The daily caloric intake for a child aged 11 and above can range approximately from 1,600 to 2,600 calories per day. Whereas for adults, the range varies from 1,800 to about 3,000.

Talking about Food Scientists and Food Technologists:- Food Scientists study food using their scientific knowledge and determine health and nutrition facts based on consumed food and liquids. On the other hand, Food Technologists work for their company’s brand of foods and flavors and develop such products that are popular with consumers and which generate maximum monitoring benefits for the parent company.

Food Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry

Food Chemistry is based on the chemical processes and interactions of all biological and non-biological components of food. It deals with the major and minor constituents of food and its raw materials. Biochemistry on the other hand, tells us about the chemical processes within and related to living organisms.

Nutrition

Nutrition is about eating a healthy and balanced diet. Food and drinks provide the energy and nutrients for you to be healthy. There are seven types of the main classes of nutrients that the body needs. Proteins, Carbohydrates, Minerals, Fiber, and Water. To maintain a healthy body and brain, you need to take these seven essential nutrients daily. A healthy and nutritious diet throughout life promotes healthy body weight, healthy pregnancy. reduces the risk of chronic diseases and illness. In short, we can say that to ensure the overall health and well-being of a person nutrition is very important. Talking about Nutrition and Food Science, we can say that it is a comprehensive coverage of food, beverage, and nutrition research. Healthy eating leads to healthy living and lifestyle.

Food Engineering and Processing

Food Engineering and Processing is a scientific field in which to manufacture food, process it, produce, handle, store, packaging, and distribute the principles of science. Mathematics, and engineering are used. Food Engineers bring in place a reliable system for developing, processing, distributing, storing food, and agricultural raw materials. The quality of the whole process is assessed and ensured, keeping in view environment-friendly product production.

Sensory Analysis

Sensory evaluation of food is a discipline that is used to measure, analyze and interpret the reactions of human senses of Smell, Sight, Taste, Touch, and Hearing towards food materials. The method of Sensory Evaluation is performed by testing many food and beverages under different preferences, descriptive and sensitivity teasers.

Food Microbiology

Food Microbiology Comprises the study of microorganisms that aretes or contaminate food. It sheds light on food spoilage and the improper storage and cooking of food which leads to diseases. A food microbiologist studies the interaction between food and microorganisms. They ensure food safety, quality, and value. How to preserve food in the best condition and how to prevent spoiling of food production chain is all on their lookout. Food microbiology such as Probiotics (good bacteria study) is becoming more important in the study of Food Sciences.
