How sun exposure can affect your skin?

Sun rays can be harmful to you if you don’t take proper care when you come in direct contact with the sun while being outdoors. If by any chance you have a sunburn, it can cause plenty of damage to your skin which can be long-lasting. Therefore Wearing an SPF of a minimum of 30 is a must when you go out in the sun.

No matter what you do and where you are and how small your exposure to the sun may be, wearing sunscreen protects your skin from sun damage. Sun can also speed up the effects of aging, which is why it is important to carry sunscreen according to your skin type with you whenever you go out in the sun.

Covering your face from direct sun exposure is also an effective way to prevent sunburn or skin damage from direct sun rays. If you don’t care about your skin and let it be exposed to direct sunlight for a long time without taking any precautions, it can cause skin cancer and dark spots too, along with aggravated acne-prone or red, open-pored uneven skin. It can make your skin tone darker forever.

Sun damage can destroy the collagen and elastin in your skin too. Collagen is a protein that retains the firmness of your skin and elastin is the support fiber that allows the skin to bounce back. Collagen and elastin degradation in the deeper skin layers can result in premature signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines because your skin loses its elasticity and firmness

Staying out of the sun is the best way to avoid sun damage. We go out regularly to prevent any skin damage due to sun raise; we all must when we go out, take these precautions:

  • Always wear sunscreen. Apply it to your skin every day. Make it a habit, as you do, with brushing your teeth.
  • Avoid sun in the middle of the day, from about 11am to 3pm The ultraviolet rays can cause more sunburn, as they are the strongest during this time.
  • Wear protective clothing. When you do go outdoors, especially for long periods in the middle of the day. Long sleeves and slacks will give you comfort, as well as a wide-brimmed hat, cap, or scarf, which will help protect your body against any harmful ultraviolet rays effects.
  • Wear sunglasses that filter UV light.

Sunscreens are very effective when used properly. Follow these guidelines to give yourself the most protection:

  • Apply sunscreen at least 20 to 30 minutes before you go outdoors.
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours while you are outdoors, even if the product is labeled “all-day.” Still, re-apply it, if you get wet or perspire heavily.
  • Cover all exposed areas, including your ears, lips, face, and back of your hands.
  • Don’t skimp; apply a generous layer. Smooth it on rather than rubbing it in. A thumb rule is, that 45 ml (a shot glass) of sunscreen is needed to cover all exposed skin to attain the stated level of protection.
  • Women should apply sunscreens under makeup.

This would be a tan that you won’t be able to remove perhaps for a very long time. Freckles and irritated skin can also be seen when a person does not take care of his/her skin while going out in the sun. Therefore, it’s essential to look out for yourself in the best possible way to avoid any kind of sun burn or skin damage.
