Poppy Seed Splendid Halwa

In Pakistan and India, mostly poppy seeds are used to bring enormous flavor in different gravies, dishes, cookies, cakes and also in many types of bread.

Khus Khus ka Halwa is mostly made on special occasions like marriages, festivals, and on different cultural events.

Ingredients for the dish:

  • One cup of Khus Khus
  • One cup of Phool Makhane
  • Half a cup ghee or melted butter
  • One cup sugar
  • One teaspoon cardamom powder
  • One and a half cups of milk
  • Chopped Almonds, Pistachios, Cashews as per your choice.

Dip Khus khus for an hour in a bowl of water. Afterwards, drain the water and make a paste of khus khus adding some more water.

Now take a big pan and add 1 tablespoon Ghee/Melted butter in the pan.

Add makhanas to the Ghee/Melted butter in the pan and keep on roasting the makhanas for at least 1 to 2 minutes.

Take a shallow pan and add half a cup of Ghee/Melted butter. When it’s a bit hot add the khus khus paste you made.

Keep stirring while you add the sugar to the pan. Along with this, add the cardamom powder to it, and keep on mixing until it’s even.

Now is the time to cover the lid of the pan and let the mix cook on a very low flame for at least 20 to 30 minutes.

Here you must remember that while you leave the Halwa mix on the low flame, you have to check it from time to time too, to make sure that the mixture is not sticking to the base of the pan.

Add dry fruits in the recipe along with some makhanas to the Halwa while it’s still cooking on low flame

Now dish out the Halwa in your favorite serving plate and garnish it with almonds pistachios, cashews, and chopped makhanas for more flavour and texture
